Machines that exchange information about their work: Industry 4.0 will not only change technology, but also our whole world of work.

The development of economics and industry does not run continuously. Sometimes, sudden leaps and revolutions happen – as for example the invention of the steam machine, electricity and digitalisation. Right now, another leap of development lies ahead: In the future, machines will communicate, coordinate and solve problems with each other, without any human input.

With an ‘internet of things’, different machines will exchange data. Production and logistics will automatically react to special customer needs, which are – right now – complex and expensive to implement. The manufacturing of special production in a low quantity will be simple in future factories. That will bring big changes to the world of work, of course.

Experts from the TU Wien, as well as Siemens Austria and the Chamber of Labor Vienna will discuss at the 20th TU-Forum, what the upcoming revolution on the way to Industry 4.0 will mean for us all.

ON THE PODIUM:

  • DETLEF GERHARD (TU WIEN)
  • SCHAHRAM DUSTDAR (TU WIEN)
  • SILVIA ANGELO (CHAMBER OF LABOR VIENNA)
  • STEFAN PETSCH (SIEMENS AUSTRIA)

Host: Norbert Fiala, knowledge mediator & former television editor
